Why you should replace your air filter this winter

December 13, 2016

We encourage routine maintenance on your HVAC system constantly, but this doesn’t only mean ongoing tune-ups – it also means assessing your air filters. It’s a quick way to help keep your system running smoothly and increase your indoor air quality, and you can easily do it on your own! Today is the ideal time to examine your filter, as the cooler weather comes to an end and heat is approaching. There are a lot of benefits to getting a replacement air filter, such as:

Increasing the life and efficiency of your system
A surefire way to instigate a system failure is a dirty air filter. Additional dirt that is built up on your filter can cause your whole system to run harder than it should to keep you cool. Not only will it impact the performance of your system, but it can increase your utility bills and cause your system to overheat.

Improving indoor air quality
The goal of an air filter is that it grabs contaminants through your air system before it enters your home. As the filter gets older, the less capable it is in grabbing things like dust and mold that can hurt the health and comfort of your home, especially if someone in your house suffers from allergies or asthma. With warmer temps near, pollen and mold are especially prone to be hanging around and you don’t want them circulating in your indoor space. A quality, clean air filter will help you breathe easy and remain healthy throughout allergy season.

Check your system or current air filter provider for suggestions on how frequently you should be changing your filter. For the majority of the filters through Tri County Climate Control LLC, we suggest an annual change with the highest MERV filter that is offered.
